Solidification Point of Petroleum Products by GOST

Solidification Point of Petroleum Products by GOST

Description

A classic method for determining the lowest temperature of mobility loss of a petroleum product for certification and evaluation of its winter properties.

Freezing winters demand flawless low-temperature fluidity from lubricants. Solidification point analysis according to GOST in the RENA laboratory allows enterprises guided by classic standards and technical specifications to officially certify their products and guarantee the safe winter start-up of machinery. This test determines the critical threshold beyond which the petroleum product completely loses mobility, turning into a paraffin gel. If you use such an oil, the oil pump simply won't be able to pump it, leading to instant bearing scuffing. Unlike fully automated Western methods, the GOST 20287 test requires strict adherence to the classical procedure. The oil sample is pre-dehydrated, placed in a glass test tube with a thermometer, and immersed in a low-temperature liquid bath (UTZ-60 cryostat). The fluid is cooled in stages. Every few degrees of temperature drop, the tube is carefully tilted at a 45-degree angle. Observation continues until, at the next tilt, the level of the thickened fluid remains absolutely motionless (the meniscus does not shift) for exactly 1 minute. The temperature recorded by the thermometer at this moment is the official solidification point.
