Fire Point by Cleveland Open Cup

Records the temperature at which the petroleum product not only flashes but continues to burn for at least 5 seconds, which is important for fire safety.

The fire point is a critical threshold of fire safety for any industrial enterprise. Unlike the flash point (when vapors only momentarily flash and extinguish), the fire point records the dangerous moment when the liquid begins to burn independently and continuously. The RENA laboratory conducts this analysis for transformer, compressor, and industrial oils operating in high-risk zones and at high temperatures. This test is a legal guarantee that you are using a safe product that will not become a source of fire in the workplace. The test is performed on an automatic Cleveland Open Cup apparatus (CLA 5), fully complying with the ASTM D92 standard. A sample of the test oil is poured into a special brass cup (Cleveland cup) up to the calibration mark. The system automatically begins to heat the fluid at a controlled rate. Starting from a temperature 28 °C below the expected flash point, a reference test flame (or electric igniter) is mechanically passed over the oil surface every 2 °C. Initially, the instrument records a momentary flash of vapors (Flash Point). But the test continues: heating goes on, and the test flame continues to sweep across the cup until the ignited vapors sustain a stable burning of the entire liquid surface for at least 5 seconds. The instrument's highly precise optical and ionization sensors capture this exact moment and record it as the Fire Point.
