With the world's transition to electric vehicles (EVs) and hydrogen fuel cells, conventional antifreezes have become dangerous. If the battery coolant conducts electricity, it will inevitably lead to charge leakage, short circuits, electrochemical corrosion of the cooling jacket, and even vehicle fires. Electrical conductivity analysis at the RENA laboratory is your technical shield. It will unmistakably distinguish a specialized dielectric antifreeze for electric cars from a conventional fluid saturated with conductive salts. This test guarantees the safety of your equipment and the lives of drivers. The measurement (according to ASTM D1125 or GOST 25981 standards) is performed using a precision laboratory conductivity meter. Testing takes place under strictly controlled conditions, as ion mobility is extremely temperature-dependent. An antifreeze sample is placed in a thermostated cell, where its temperature is fixed exactly at 20.0 °C. A conductivity cell consisting of two parallel platinum electrodes with a precisely known area and distance between them is immersed in the fluid. The instrument applies a low-voltage alternating current to the electrodes and measures the electrical resistance of the solution. The reciprocal of the resistance, multiplied by the cell constant, gives the electrical conductivity. Modern EV fluids are formulated based on highly purified glycol using non-ionic (salt-free) corrosion inhibitors. The instrument records even the slightest impurities of conductive chloride, sulfate, or metal ions that may enter the product during production or operation.
