Density

Description

A fundamental physical parameter of a fluid necessary for converting mass to volume in commercial operations and for calculating kinematic viscosity.

Density is a passport parameter of any petroleum product. In the RENA laboratory, this basic yet critically important indicator is measured using ultra-precise digital density meters, eliminating human error and ensuring perfect accuracy for your commercial and technical calculations. Knowing the exact density at a standard temperature (usually 15 °C or 20 °C) allows not only to correctly convert tons to liters when receiving fuel or base oils, but also to quickly detect counterfeits, accidental mixing of different batches, or contamination of the product with heavier or lighter liquids. The measurement is carried out according to the state-of-the-art ASTM D4052 standard using an oscillating U-tube digital density meter. A minimal amount of sample (about 1-2 ml) is automatically introduced into the instrument (via syringe or built-in pump). This sample enters a hollow U-shaped glass tube, which is electromagnetically excited and begins to vibrate at a specific resonant frequency. The physics of the method is that the frequency of these oscillations directly depends on the mass (and therefore the density) of the fluid filling the tube: the heavier the fluid, the lower the vibration frequency. The instrument measures the oscillation period with an accuracy of microseconds and instantly calculates the density using built-in algorithms. The SVM 3001 system is equipped with ultra-precise Peltier elements for temperature control of the sample with an error of up to 0.01 °C, since the density of petroleum products is extremely sensitive to temperature fluctuations.
